Part 5 - Part 4
The Application of our Human intelligence gathers momentum as we enter the Current Era. CE is the secular equivalent of Anno Domini. This author prefers AD for the one and only reason that he is familiar with the term and can move back and forth through History without constantly wondering where the dickens am I?.
This is in contrast with his willing adoption of the Metric System, which has proven to be well worth the learning and implementation. Particularly in mechanical engineering.
AD, Anno Domini, meaning after Christ, was witness to an accelerating
rate of Invention and Discovery. And more than a setback or two.
Anno Domini, the birth year of Jesus Christ, indicates the first year of the Gregorian Calendar.
The
Gregorian Calendar was initially a religion inspired alteration to the
Julian Calendar. This modified document was introduced by Pope Gregory
XIII in 1582, and was so well received that . . ..
The Gregorian
Calendar gradually superseded the then standard orderly record of time,
the Julian Calendar, which neglected to accurately reflect the
coinciding of the Christian Church celebration of Easter, and the
Natural event, the Spring Equinox.
The Julian Calendar was subject to compounding error in this respect as the years ticked by.
Introduced by Roman Emperor Julius Caesar forty six years preceding the
birth of Christ, the Julian Calendar was well entrenched, and the two
instruments coexisted until recent times.
Although it is
religious in origin and nature, the Gregorian Calendar has been widely
adopted over the centuries, to become universally accepted as the
Civil Standard Calendar throughout the World. This instrument is an
excellent example of Standardization.
World Wide Standardization, whenever and wherever it may be useful and appropriate, is an admirable implementation of Human Intelligence. And, commendably, standardization is increasingly being practiced across a wide spectrum of Disciplines. The more rapidly we can agree on standardization, the more economical Technology will become.
Let's wend our way down through a little more time, and meet some more clever dudes. Clever Dudes - Individuals who have recognized the latent power of the Human Mind - come from every corner of the Globe. They come from every walk of Life. Clever Dudes come from every Culture.
It is not at all surprising that Clever Dudes come from all over the World when one considers that we are all born of the same Genes and therefore equal as Human Beings.
Nature endows each and every Human Being with ability. Discovering, nurturing and developing that ability is the responsibility of the individual.
Who can then gainfully employ the Power inherent in their Mind to fulfill their dreams.
As did the hardy Humans mentioned in this series of articles.
For the purpose of exploring the subject of Human Intelligence Dream means worthy goal.
If every Human who sought domination over their fellows aspired to a worthy goal as do Good men and women, there would be no murderous wars and no sickening destruction.
That sensitive instrument used for accurately measuring the magnitude of earthquakes, the Seismograph, was invented in China, a few years after Paper, by an early practitioner of the Scientific Method, Zhang Heng. (AD 78–139) Writing Paper was also invented in China, in the 2nd century AD. During the Han Dynasty.
Today, the modern version of the Seismograph is proving to be
indispensable in determining the chemical composition of the Earth's
Core.
The Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD) in China, evenly straddled
the two time eras BC and AD. And took up the reins from the short lived
Qin Dynasty. (221-207 BC)
The Qin had just completed uniting China using violence and force. Unlike the Han guys, the Qin were not such clever dudes. Intelligent Minds do not use Force to unite anything.
The
Han Dynasty wisely based its political system on the philosophy of
Confucius, (551–479 BC) providing a stable environment that encouraged
Scientific Inquiry and higher intellectual pursuits such as Literature,
Music and Art.
The expansion of the Han Dynasty was responsible for the opening of trade with the Romans via the Silk Roads.
This period of stability was very productive. Not surprisingly.
Human intelligence flourishes when it is nurtured in an environment of Social Stability, Harmony, and Encouragement. Confucius (circa 551-478 BC) advocated these three pillars of a sound Society.
Confucius's work was not acknowledged nor recognized until several
hundred years after his death. Primarily because his philosophy opposed
the methods of those who held power.
He was a rigorous thinker
who believed all behavior should be based in moral action. Not merely
including government, but particularly government. Understanding was the
basis of his thinking. The use of force or violence were never part of
his methods for achieving goals.
Peace and Harmony were Confucius's major goals. Goals to be attained via Intelligent Relationships.
According to Confucius, Moral behavior and moral actions producing the highest ethical standards, were practiced by the Superior Man.
Highest ethical standards are Worthy attributes we should indeed expect from each other, but should be an essential trait for any Leader, anywhere.
If leaders do not possess the highest ethical standards, they should not be permitted to lead.
The
Han Dynasty recognized Confucius's sound philosophy and concurring with
it's practical and sensible nature, put it into practice.
While
stable, the Han period produced prosperity and an abundance of fruit
from the realms of Higher Thought. Generated by wise use of Human
intelligence.
The Dynasty lost the plot after some 400 years, by
ignoring its sound basis and descending into corruption and political
turmoil.
Throughout History - all over the World - this pattern repeats itself ad infinitum. Evidenced by the present day turmoil around the globe.
Sigh, when are we ever going to learn.
Classical Antiquity was a voluntary homogenization of the Greek and Roman Cultures beginning well before the Dark Ages, and supposedly ending in the early Middle Ages.
This exhilarating period in Human History produced some of the World's truly great Thinkers of all time.
By
examining living a life in detail, these Great Minds tended to discover
solutions to problems. Solutions that always elude less rigorous
Thinkers.
Less rigorous Thinkers can be identified by their willingness to resort to violence, in an attempt to have their - inferior - way.
These
truly great Thinkers examinations of life have influenced other
Intelligent Minds down through the ages and, thankfully, still do.
This author's considered view is that Rigorous Thinkers - whatever the era - have purposely maintained, and further developed, a culture of Compassion and Sharing, over the passage of time.
Many
courageous men and women of our modern Era are continuing to carry
this Classical tradition of Peace and Harmony, forward. Which would
suggest it is still alive and well. Albeit struggling against the tide
of reckless ignorance of the role that Natural Law plays in Human relations.
Another sigh.
The Dark Ages in Europe predictably loom as the Western Roman Empire, under constant and relentless attack from Barbarians, including the Vandals, Goths and Huns, disintegrates and eventually collapses and expires.
Learning declines dramatically and the Disciplines of Science are all but ignored.
Christian Tutors and their Scholars kept the passion for learning enduring in Monasteries. Precincts more usually reserved for Solitude.
Paradoxically,
whilst these brave efforts to maintain learning are to be much admired
and commended, evil entities within the Christian movement were at work
openly exerting and increasing their influence.
These evil doers were taking advantage of the now incapacitated Roman Empire.
They went about manifesting their unhealthy Desire
to dominate weak masses, vehemently opposed and crushed new ideas, and
persistently attempted to prevent the seeking of knowledge.
This
obnoxious hierarchy of evil intimidated their weaker fellows and
practiced this repulsive behavior with both overt and insidious actions
for around one thousand years.
During this black and confused
Era, ever more tribes, including ethnically related groups, are
fracturing and splintering, and fighting their butts off. Oh, and
inflicting massive destruction.
No Rational Human Intelligence here
